Pest Control Before the Wet Season in Mackay
North Queensland heat and wet seasons keep pests busy all year, and the wet season pushes them indoors. Treating before the rain arrives works better than chasing a problem after it starts. This guide covers what we see in Mackay, what to check at home, and how to time a treatment.
What changes when the rain starts
Hot, humid summers and a big wet season suit cockroaches, ants and termites. When the ground floods or stays soaked, ants move indoors looking for dry places to nest. Cockroaches head for wall cavities, drains and roof spaces.
Around the suburbs, the surroundings matter too. Cane fields and creeks bring rats and mice closer when the weather turns or the cane gets cut. In places like Walkerston, Marian and Sarina, cane country sits right up to the back fence.
Pest numbers build quietly. By the time you notice them in the kitchen, the nest or the entry point has usually been there a while, which is why looking early pays off.
What to check before it rains
Walk around the outside of the house. Look for gaps around pipes, cracked weep holes and gaps under doors. Trim back plants touching the walls, because they give ants and spiders a bridge to the house.
Clear gutters, pick up piles of timber or rubbish, and check the roof space if you can get in safely. Note where you see activity and what time of day. A photo helps when you call us.
Termites
Termites do their damage quietly. In older timber homes like those in North Mackay and Sarina, we look closely at stumps, bearers and doorframes. Newer slab homes in Beaconsfield and Glenella can still get termites through the slab edge and weep holes, so a termite inspection is worth having even on a young house.
If you find damage or mud tubes, leave them alone and call us. Breaking them open sends termites somewhere else in the house and makes them harder to track. We work out what is going on and quote the fix before any work starts.
Treatment on a schedule
One spray rarely fixes pests for good here. Most homes do better with a treatment on a regular schedule, before numbers build up. A general treatment covers the inside of the house, the roof void where we can get in, and the outside perimeter.
We look first, because what you see in the kitchen is usually coming from somewhere else. Tell us if you have kids, pets, fish tanks or anyone with asthma. We plan the treatment around them and tell you how long to stay out of the room.
Businesses and rentals
For offices, shops, warehouses and food businesses, pest control can sit on the same schedule as your cleaning, with one company and one phone number. We can treat after hours so you do not lose a trading day.
Rental owners in suburbs like West Mackay and Mount Pleasant often treat between tenants. It is a good time to get on top of cockroaches before the next family moves in.
Food businesses, offices, warehouses, childcare and strata sites get a set schedule and a record of what was done and when, which is useful if you ever need to show someone.
When to book
The best time is before the wet season is in full swing. If you are already seeing pests, do not wait. Call us with your suburb and what you are seeing and we will give you a time and a price before we start.

Common questions
Why do I see more cockroaches and ants after rain?
Wet ground drives them indoors looking for dry shelter. Wall cavities, drains and roof spaces are common places they head for.
Do I have to leave the house for a treatment?
Usually only for a few hours, and only for the rooms being treated. We tell you exactly how long when we book you in.
Should I get a termite inspection on a newer house?
It is worth it. Newer slab homes can still get termites through the slab edge and weep holes.
